Aging in Place and Accessibility Project Photos

Whether it’s making doorways wheelchair accessible, installing elevators and chair lifts, or ensuring the bathroom is ADA compliant. A good place to start is universal design. Universal design in broad terms means designing a room that is functional for an able-bodied homeowner, an aging individual, and a person who has special needs because of physical limitations.

Aging in Place Home Remodels and Additions

Aging in place is widely accepted as a great alternative to institutional living. In fact, many homeowners transform their home into a safer more convenient space with an aging in place remodel. Accessibility-focused remodels or home additions rework layouts and add features that are distinctively designed to help you live a fulfilling life in your own home as you age.

Interior Renovation for Aging in Place

Whether you are looking to renovate for yourself or a loved one, remodeling your home for aging in place can be a wise move. Everything from your bathroom to your hallways to your bedroom needs to be accessible to ensure you are living independently. Bathrooms

The bathroom is one of the most important aging in place reworks to consider. When you are older having a first-floor full bathroom is crucial to the livability and functionality of your home. If you do not have a bathroom located on the ground floor.  It may be time to consider an addition or to install an elevator or chairlift in your home for easier second-floor access.

Grand Bedrooms

Besides your bathroom, you spend a lot of your time  in your bedroom. It’s where you sleep and dress yourself, it needs to be safe and accessible. Ideally, a ground floor bedroom suite ensures easier access to other essential rooms in the home, like the kitchen and living room. If your bedroom, or the bedroom of an elderly parent is located on the upper level of your home, then consider installing an elevator or a chairlift for easier access  and convenience.
